Located on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, Edwards Air Force Base has been home to the Air Force Flight Test Center since June 25, 1951. The unique physical desert environment is what makes Edwards an ideal place for flight test activities.

A SONIC BOOM IS CAUSED BY AN OBJECT MOVING FASTER THAN SOUND - ABOUT 750 MPH AT SEA LEVEL.

The strongest sonic boom ever recorded was 144 pounds per square foot produced by a F-4 flying just above the speed of sound at an altitude of 100 feet operated by Air Force Space Command.
